Connections Memory Care at The Pines—Focusing on independence
Our Connections Memory Care Program embraces the Montessori Philosophy in all facets of daily care and activities. We aim to create opportunities for residents to enjoy as much independence as possible.
We are one of the only communities in the area that applies the Montessori Philosophy Dementia Care™.
Perhaps you’ve heard of the Montessori method of teaching. The same principles have been applied to memory care with tremendous success.
It’s a different way of looking at dementia—accepting the disease and focusing on creating an environment that increases engagement and participation. It’s person-centered care, improving the enjoyment of daily life by creating a true sense of accomplishment.
Our physical space works to support each resident
The small footprint makes it easier for residents to orient themselves throughout the day and not feel overwhelmed. Color-coded communal spaces and directional signage that use large print and visual cues, provide increased autonomy and self-direction.
Staff are trained to interact with residents using the Montessori philosophy
All levels of staff are trained to integrate the Montessori Philosophy into their different jobs, which creates a unique network of care. Using deliberate communication strategies, each interaction becomes an opportunity for caregivers to guide and encourage residents toward independent choice.
Focused activities encourage residents to retain autonomy with essential skills
Our Montessori-style activity method provides group and focused one-on-one activities that support cognitive skills, life skills, sensory, social, music, movement and art.
